Sorry - A crossover is a special network cable that allows you to connect to networks cards so they can communicate to each other as if the were connected to a switch - the route is buy an inexpensive switch and plug the machines into that - both are available through who ever supplies your computer equipment
With either of these methods all you need to do is assign an ip address and you will be able to communicate between the machines
